The San Antonio Independent School District hastily voted to shut down six neighborhood public schools, claiming the district is in a budget crunch. However, the truth has not been told and…

Do you want to keep our neighborhood public schools open for families in the community? Do you believe it is inefficient and unwise to dismantle a community school for private interest?

Join concerned families and community members.
Call San Antonio Independent School District’s superintendent,
Robert Duron at 299-5500.
Email him at rduron1@saisd.net
Visit the SAISD website, www.saisd.net

Tell him to keep SAISD schools open because:

• It is inefficient and ineffective to bus out hundreds students in the district to bus in a few students from around the city for selective specialty schools;

• It is inefficient to displace hundreds of students from learning in their neighborhood schools only to use those buildings for more bureaucratic district offices;

• It is inefficient and a waste of taxpayer money to displace hundreds of students from their functional neighborhood schools only to turn around and spend more money to build new schools.

• Our good teachers deserve to teach in classrooms that are manageable and not overcrowded. Smaller classrooms produce fewer dropouts and better student results than large, overcrowded classes.

• It is unjust to local taxpayers that private funders dictate district policy and undermine the common good;

• It is undemocratic to not give taxpayers full notice of public meetings about life-altering decisions, such as closing neighborhood public schools, and not listen to input from area residents.

• We taxpayers will not remain silent about possible legal violations and questionable hiring practices associated with school closures.

All our children deserve high expectations, not a select few.  Our neighborhoods and our children count!
