"We're Mothers Defending Our Children's Education!"
Saturday March 8, 2008, Horace Mann Academy and Travis Elementary joined forces in solidarity at the International Woman's Day March. We went to protest the SAISD vote to close the campus' as we know them. We will continue to question why the board feels they can sell us on low enrollment and lack of funds and turn our properties into private schools for a selected few. We need to know how this is a cost effective answer to a better education for all district students. We will no longer accept taxation without representation. We demand to be a part of life changing decisions. As long as we are tax payers and registered voters we will be heard. After all this is not a tea party.....this is our children's future. Petitions are available at all activities involving the effort to cease this Board's course of action to close schools we feel did not meet the requirements for closure. We welcome your support.

"The 2008 International Woman’s Day March in San Antonio is especially important because 2008 marks the 70th year since local leader Emma Tenayuca led over 10,000 women workers, pecan shellers, in a march for better working conditions and wages. The Pecan Sheller’s Strike of 1938 was one of the biggest strikes in U.S. history." An estimated turn out of 500 representing many causes marched.
